shri lakshmikAntha tIrtharu was a great scholar and jnAni.

shri lakshmikAntha tIrtharu upheld the vijayanagar dynasty by helping the rulers reestablish their kingdom with penugonDa as the base. Much of the wealth and assets of the vyAsarAja maTa was given to the rulers to make this happen. 

Miracle – This incidence took place long back (25-30Yrs back) when Bangalore-Guntakal Meter Gauage was converted into broad gauage at Penukonda.  Brundavanam of Sri Sri 1008 lakshmikantha Theertharu-of Sri Vyasaraja mutt.  Authoritied without the knowledge of the presence of this Great Saint’s Brundavanam they laid the new Broad gauage track over his brundavanam (ofcourse before that they poured the mud to cover it).

Next day morning when they came for the spot, for their surprise they found that new trak was completly broken & was in hapazard way. This incidence happend not just once, but 2-3 times. Then later on one fine night 1 of the engineer saw this great saints brundavanam & this was the reason why they had this trouble.

Later railways decieded to sketch a new plan & laid alternative line.

You can see the brundavanam of Sri Sri Lakshimikantha theertharu in the outskirts of Penukonda.

Sri Lakshmikantha Theertha took Ashrama from Sri Rama Theertha and is Fifteenth saint from Madhwacharya.

Sri 1008 Sri Lakshmikantha Theertha took sanyasa from his predecessor Sri 1008 Sri Rama Theertha and ruled the great Vyasaraja Peeta for 10 years. Sri Lakshmikantha Theertha was known for his adherence to ascetic way of life (Sanyasa Ashrama) and generally was considered an ideal sanyasi during his times.

He was known to have spent considerable time in Penugonda taking care of more than 300 Sri Vyasaraja installed Hanuman idols. History tells us that he was a very good friend and worked closely with his contemporary peetadhipathi of Sri Sripadaraja Mutt Sri Udhandha Ramachandra Theertha. Sri Lakshmikantha Theertha entered Vrundavana to the lotus feet for Sri Narayana in the year 1594 AD Sravana Shudha Saptami at Penugonda, Ananthapur Dist, Andhra Pradesh.

He gave sanyasa deekshe to his favorite student and rechristened him Sri 1008 Sri Sripati Theertha to continue the parampare of Sri Vyasaraja Mutt and entered Vrundavana at Penugonda, in Ananthapur District of Andhra Pradesh.

ShrAvaNa ahuddha saptami, is the ArAdhane of shri lakshmIkAnta tIrtharu of sOsale vyAsarAja maTa. shri lakshmIkAnta tIrtharu... 

penukonDa also houses the mUla brindAvana of 2 other great saints - shri uttanDa rAmachandra tIrtharu of shrIpAdarAja maTa and of shri vEdavyAsa tIrtharu of uttarAdhi maTa. 

Of the 732 prANa dEvarus that shri vyAsarajaru installed, 365 are in penukonDa. vyAsarajaru had done this to reduce the influence of Jainism in that area as it was a great seat of Jainism at that time. Apparently shri vyAsarjaru is supposed to have installed these 365 prANa dEvarus in 365 days. Several of the prANa dEvarus installed can still be seen today including one at the entrance to the old town. There is also a prANa dEvaru installed by shri raghUtama tIrtharu. 

Given vyAsarAjaru's association with this place, shri lakshmIkANtha tIrtharu spent lot of time there worshipping the prANa dEvarus and entered brindAvana there itself. He had alao setup a learning center there. The remains of that can be seen today next to the brindAvana. 

shri lakshmIkAntha tIrtharu's gurugaLu, shri rAma tIrtharu also gave sanyAsa to another person and named him shri srIdhara tIrtharu. The lineage of lakshmIkAntha tIrtharu became sOsale vyAsarAja maTa and the one of shrIdhara tIrtharu became kundApura vyAsarAja maTa.
