Sri Sugnanendra Theertha is the 28th saint after Madhwacharya in the guru parampare of Puttige mutt.

Sri Sugnanendra Theertha took Ashrama from Sri Sudheendra Theertha and ruled the Peeta for 18 years. He was third son of Venkatakrishnachar who was Poorvashrama brother of Sri Sudheendra Theertha. He did Sudha mangala under Sri Vibudhapriya Theertha of Adamaru mutt in Ghatikachala. He took Ashrama in 1918. He built Shilamantapa for Puttige mutt and involved in renovation of Tirthahalli branch mutt. He was expert in Ayurveda and cured diseases of many people. He was honored as ‘Vidyavallabha” from Andhra University. He built Vittala temple in Shimoga.
After handing over Peeta to Sri Sugunendra Theertha he entered Vrundavana at Udupi.

He was an expert in ayurveda. Even today there is Ayurveda shop in rathabeedi named after sudhindra tirtharu. One of the universities had respected him. He started branch of Puthige mutt at Bangalore in Basavanagudi.

Sri Puttige matha is one among the famous Asta mathas of Udupi and originates from Shri legendary saint *Shri Upendra Teertha Swamiji * who was the most important contemporary disciple of *Shri Madhwacharya * His holiness *Shri Sujnanendra Teertha Swamiji * adorned the glorious spiritual tradition of Shri Puttige Matha as the 29th pontiff.
He assumed the sanyasa and the Peetha in the year 1918, from his predecessor Guru His Holiness *Shri Sudheendra Teertha Swamiji * who was a Shtayushi and a renowned saint.
His holiness Sujnanendra Teertha Swamiji was known by the name Hejamadi Gopalabhatta before he assumed the ashrama .
He hailed from Bharadwaja gothra belonging to Yajurveda Bodayana branch .
He is known to have thoroughly studied the *Vedanta upto Nyayasudha under the very famous and revered saint of sri Admaru Matha , Shri Vibhudapriya Teertha swamiji .
He has the fame of having fulfilled the Paryaya pooja of Lord Sri Krishna in Shri Krishna Matha and of *Sri Upendra vittala * inspite of the adverse situation resulting from china war of 1962.
The swamiji has contributed to the heritage of Shri Puttige matha by renovating many of its branches .
*He was known among the people as an expert hand in Ayurvedic medicine and had arranged for growing of the Ayurvedic medicinal plants in the Padigaru branch of puttige matha .
Many devotees and followers remember him even today for having been cured of elephantiasis under his Avurvedic treatment . The university of Hyderabad honoured him with the title “Shri Vidyavallabha” for his expertise in Ayurveda .
His Holiness Swamiji was an eminent writer and highlighted the significance of moorthy pooja , paryaya festivities and the tradition of Ashthamatha in his writings.
He blessed both the Swamijis, namely Shri Vidyasagara Teertha swamiji of Shri krishnapura matha and His Holiness Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji of Puttige matha with sanyasa deeksha and contributed for the glory of the Ashta matha tradition.
Sri SujnAnendra Teertha swamiji ended his earthly life and entered brundavanam on Ashada krishna ekadashi of Anada samvatsara in the year 1974.
The brundavan is located in the holy site containing the brundavanams of udupi and asthamathas swamjis, located in Shri Krishna Matha Premises.
